Introducing Vicky Thornley

Biography

Born in St Asaph and growing up in Wrexham, Victoria Thornley studied business management at university but decided to leave in order to pursue her rowing ambitions.

The decision paid off as she gained her first GB vest in 2009 and won gold in the women’s eight at the World U23 Championships in Racice, during an outstanding debut.

She made her Olympic debut at London 2012, finishing fifth in the women’s eight, before partnering Dame Katherine Grainger to win bronze in the women’s pair at the 2015 European Championships in Poznan.

Thornley and Grainger were selected for the double scull at Rio 2016, and Thornley won her first Olympic medal – a silver – with a second-place finish in the final.

In 2017, Thornley won European gold in the single sculls, in Racice. World Championship silver medal in 2017, qualified single scull for Olympics for first time in 20 years, with a 4th place finish at 2019 World Championships and European silver 2021.

Living in Henley-on-Thames with Husband Rick, Victoria is passionate about promoting a healthy lifestyle. An advocate for a nutritious diet and fitness regime, Victoria regularly shares tips, tricks, recipes and videos on her own blog victoriathornley.com.
